.au: an australian thanksgiving

i was off cycling in the hunter valley, and returned to sydney to find a note from candace inviting me to a 'thanksgiving-eque' dinner at some friends of theirs, tom and anya. it was truly australian-style: all the meat, which included lamb kebabs (of course), kangaroo (!!) and some turkey chops (?? we didn't realize turkeys HAD chops) hunter had found was grilled. i was told by tom that australians grilled for christmas as well. the mashed and sweet potatoes and a salad were more familiar thanksgiving fare, as well the laughter, conversation and the extra-full feeling after having tried all the meats. dessert was on the nontraditional (but tasty) side: treats from chinatown from hunter, and a fruit tart brought by julia.
