.au: the opera house!

seeing the sydney opera house was very impressive. i wasn't prepared for the tiles, though - those great sails are actually made from tiles from sweden. i spent awhile wandering around and took a tour of the interior. i found out some interesting tidbits:

• the first opera had a family of possums come on stage, causing queen elizabeth to remark "only in australia!"
• eero saarinen was responsibe for the selection of utzon as an architect - arriving late, he dismissed the contendors and picked utzon's drawing from the rejects.
