.vn: atmosphere and silk in Hoi An

hoi an: THE place in Vietnam to have tailored silk garments made. our first night, we chose our materials and designs. i decided i had to have a tradional ao dai, the Vietnamese national dress made, and Tom was angling for a tuxedo-style jacket to go with his kilt. we were politely and and efficiently measured by a group of cheerful young Vietnamese women. gorgeous rough silk bolts lined the shops' walls.

the next day we wandered around the city, soaking up the atmosphere and visting several Chinese temples, and returned by late afternoon to try on our new garments. a shopper's dream. we also purchased silk lanterns as souvenirs.
